With week 1 in the books, the ESPL saw every game with a score and the draws were low as the balance of the first season is something to be enjoyed. Wordsmiths take the top of the table in points with their 4-3 win over the Vulcan FC hosts, winning not only big but big on the road. Their team captain, Travis Trevors, summed up their hopeful season with the following:
“All we have to do is do this every game all season long and we’ll win the Emerald Cup. Am I right?” The media laughed.
There were a few multi-goal scorers this week, too. Jesse Davis from Naval Armada, Boris Putin from Vulcan FC, and Calvin Casey from Wordsmiths all share the top goal scoring this week tied at 2. Only Putin’s effort was for naught as Vulcan were the club to fall to Wordsmiths.
Emerald United were this week’s big upset as they were expected to trounce the Allen FC hosts but Allen proved to be tougher than expected, though one could argue the sole red card of the entire league going to take out Paco DeJesus (for two games) played a large part of that.
In all, we saw a lot of great action and are looking forward to week 2, especially is the scoring is as rampant as week 1.
