ESPL Week 9 Wrap Up – Making a Statement

Week 9 is in the books and there is one club that has made a statement about their situation at the top: we are number one. Gothica heads the league still, with Emerald United tied on points but loses on goal difference, and Shazam CM acquires their first loss of the season at the hands of the best in the league. Let’s get to the overview!

The first match saw only two goals, one in each half. Dzung Tran in the first half for Vulcan, and Scott Stennon in the second half for Halo. There was plenty to watch and plenty to be interested in, but in the end we are left with only a draw.

The second match saw the hosts, Emerald United, jump out to a 2-0 lead before things eventually got closer towards the end of the match. Emerald United scored by Xin Li and two by Garrett Parker. Naval Armada scored by Stephan Khan and Pedro DeJesus. Khan Galaxy attempted the most chances but couldn’t convert a single one, pushing Naval down into sixth in the league.

The third, fourth, and fifth matches saw no scoring, though each of the matches had plenty of yellow cards and even a few chances.

The spotlight game of the week, Gothica hosting Shazam CM, delivered on scoring and excitement at every level. Gothica scored by Simon Tarken, Victor Vesselin, and Juan Avilaperez… along with two goals each by Donovan Righte and Norman Tavez. Shazam CM couldn’t keep up that pace but scored by Jackson Alexander, Taoufik Belbani, Carlos Marcos, and two by Drago Petroff.

Things are heating up and everyone is interested in what will happen when we see another Gothica versus Emerald United match, which we believe will determine the champions of the inaugural ESPL season. Shazam CM has a bid in there, as do the two only remaining undefeated clubs in Shamrock Celtic and Allen FC, but Gothica and Emerald United appear to have risen to the top as expected.
